SAS 99 Memo for Google
Contained herein is the SAS 99 for Google (GOOG). Several measures of internal fraud in the company will be discussed in subsequent sections of this memo. Fist will be a comparison of income information with that of competition, especially Yahoo and Microsoft. The second measure to be investigated is that of compensation of company executives using stock options. Third measure will involve the connection between senior management and board of directors, whereas the fourth measure intends to answer the question whether the company's stock is overvalued.Google is the youngest of the three major Internet search engine and online communication providers. However, this new entrant to the industry is rapidly becoming a trend setter for its older rivals. the same is happening with net income, although it may take few more years before Google reaches Microsoft's multimillion dollar profits.According to EDGAR reports by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Google's 2007 profits stood at $ 4.2 billion compared toà 3.1 billion in 2006 and 1.5 billion in 2005.As this report indicates, the company's profits have been rising steadily since it was listed at the NYSE. The profitability is echoed by the ever rising popularity of Google's products. In the same period, Yahoo's profits stood at 800 million in 2005, 1.9 billion in 2006 and 750 million in 2005.Yahoo's profits have been cyclical despite the rising usage of Internet worldwide. Microsoft, the other market participant that competes with Google and Yahoo made $ 12.2 billion in 2005, 12.6 billion in 2006 and 10 billion in 2007.From the three companies, it is clear that only Google's profitability has been on rising streak compared to its competitors. The continuation of this trend, buoyed by ever increasing demand for company products and services. Having illustrated profitability between Google and its competitors, the subsequent sections of the memo shall address investigates probability fraud in the company. With regard to the non financial measures, Google has been steadily increasing the number of employees to cater for the increasing demand for its products and services. Considering Google is a growth company, it has been undertaking aggressive development of new products, which increases the demand for more employees. This explains the rising employee expenses in the company's balance sheetââ¬âthe expenses rose from 266 million in 2006 to 2007 million in 2007. Microsoft's employee compensation expense increased from $ 1.9 billion in 2006 to $2.3 in 2007. The doubling of Google's employee compensation is due to the fact that the company on its growth stage whereasà Microsoft seems to be reaching maturity stage.Compared with profitability of the company, it is clear that increasing labour force has been paying off in both short and long run life of the company. In addition to the regular salaries provided to employees, some members of the labour force, especially executives and members of the board of directors benefit from being compensated through stock options. In the 2007 financial year of $ 137.2 million stock options were exercised by respective employees and board members. At the same period, Yahoo's stock options were valued at $ 108 million and that of Microsoft at $ 819 million. Microsoft's large amount is occasioned by the large size of the company, which means that there is a greater number of employees taking part. As for Google, the number is in no way showing fraud indications, compared to the rest. Most of Google's 1998 founders are still very much involved in the day to day running of company activities. Indeed, a good number of them serve in both executive positions and at the board of directors. For instance, Eric Scmidt has for long continued to serve as the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the company's Board of Director; he has occupied both positions since 2001.The same happens with Sergy Brin who serves the executive position o f Technology President and as member in the board of directors. The other founder is Larry Page who serves as President of Products and as a member in the Board of Directors. This is a far shift from the practice in rest of Google's competitors; none between Microsoft's and Yahoo's executives serve in the Board of Directors. In this regard, Googleà à executives are more likely to participate in fraud compared to those of Microsoft and Yahoo.Last is the measure on whether Google's shares are overvalued in the stock market. As of Friday, June 6, 2008, Google's stock was trading at $ 567, compared to Yahoo's $ 26 and Microsoft's $ 27. 49.The higher price paid on company stock develops from fact that Google is poised to in crease its dominance in the industry and thus led to better return on investment. this is an indication the stock is not over valued at all. Investors are therefore eager and willing to make a bet on Google's shares. Considering the analysis above, it is hereby ob server that Google far from being prone to internal fraud.Works CitedSEC. Farewell: Friendship and Various School Activities Essay
We have gathered here today to bid farewell to the students of standard 10th. I am indeed honored to be given this opportunity to represent the students of standard 9th. Just when we start to get comfortable with a person, something comes to alter the recipe. In this context, I would like to mention that for the past few months, the students of standards 9th and 10th have indeed worked very closely together to organize various school activities which have helped us forge close ties of friendship. And now, before we know, its time to say ââ¬ËAdieuââ¬â¢. The Bible says ââ¬Å"To everything there is a reason and a time to every purpose under heavenâ⬠You all have waited for this moment all your lives, the moment when you leave your childhood behind and step into the real competitive world to forge your own paths in life. We have counted down the years, the months, the hours, minutes and seconds, and finally, that moment has arrived. Most of you all will miss the very heart of your experience as a student; your friends and your teachers. Although all may be separated by time and distance in the interim, nothing will diminish the important role that you have and always will play in our lives. We wish you happy adventures, fantastic new friendships, amazing experiences and the journey of a lifetime. Richard Bach says, ââ¬Å"Can miles truly separate you from friends and loved ones? If you want to be with someoneâ⬠¦ arenââ¬â¢t you already there?â⬠May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of his hand.

Counselors as Companions and Ethics in Human Services Essay
1. Every person we come into contact with on a daily basis is able to teach us a little something about life. You just have to be open to learning. This particular counselor who was introduced to Steve for whatever cosmic reason, but left the encounter more knowledgeable about the human condition than when initially introduced. At first glance and without knowing any background on Steve the counselor could have just chalked Steve up as a special needs student who in no way was going to succeed being away from home. The councilor however took time out and got to know his student and found all the triumphs that he had been faced with and had overcome throughout the years. The counselor was able to determine that this student was in no way going to give up and fall between the cracks due to a series of unfortunate events. Every child I come in contact with on a daily basis has their own story, many of which are heart wrenching or unnerving, but yet many persevere and will become productive members of society because someone along the way has showed that they care. 2. Steve was able to benefit just as much as the counselor through this interaction. He was able to persevere and complete his education. All that Steve needed was for someone else to also see the end of the tunnel as well as he saw it. Having someone on the same page and able to stand with you through your goals is beneficial to all those involved not just the single individual with the goal. I think the biggest push anyone could ever get is having someone who does not know you say ââ¬Å"you canââ¬â¢t do thatâ⬠; it provides all the more motivation to prove them wrong. According to the National Organization of Human Services (NOHS), a code of ethics is an explicit statement of the values, principles, and the rules of a profession, regulating the conduct of its membersâ⬠(Barker, 2001, p.84) There are two statements found in the NOHS though that best summarize this code and make it applicable to the field in which I am currently surrounded by. STATEMENT 45 Human service educators demonstrate full commitment to their appointed responsibilities, and are enthusiastic about and encouraging of studentsââ¬â¢ learning. STATEMENT 46 Human service educators model the personal attributes, values and skills of the human service professional, including but not limited to, the willingness to seek and respond to feedback from students. In reading Steveââ¬â¢s journey on the Heroââ¬â¢s Path there is an identifiable moment that relates to my current position that I have been witness to and assisted with. As a guidance secretary for a public school I have seen man types of students walk through our door. Our most recent students who have come in search of a chance to blend in with a traditional student body are two students who found themselves being best friends despite each otherââ¬â¢s complex issues. One is an overweight 16 year old and suffers from Prader-Willi Syndrome and sneaks food from our cafeteria any chance he gets. The other a 17 year old was born with malformation of the mouth and hands. Both are part of our special education program. Because of their outward appearances, both are shunned by the other student, which has had very little effect on them. To assist them in this effort of blending in our Administrative Resource Teacher, who is popular and liked by the student body because of her understanding and helpful nature has essentially deputized these two during our busiest lunch period. In order to keep the child with Prader-Willi from stealing uneaten food and his friend from stealing anything for him, they eat their lunch and when they are done, are placed on crime watch patrol around the perimeter of the school, with our ART. The child with Prader-Willi gets exercise and it removes him from tempting treats left behind by students such as milk and chips. Both also get the satisfaction of knowing that despite their abnormalities they are regular students. During pep assemblies when the excited student body is a little overwhelming, these students also know that my office is a safe haven for them. They know that they must do work alphabetizing or organizing but they each have a task. Iââ¬â¢ve heard many of our administrators repeat this saying time and time again ââ¬Å"you need to know our students, in order to teacher themâ⬠, the same applies in any interaction with them. Students donââ¬â¢t just learn in the four walls of a classroom, they learn in every kind of environment. If you make that environment one in which they are comfortable students will return time after time to seek your guidance and model attributes they found and have seen demonstrated. Paradigm Paper Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Paradigm Paper - Essay Example For the past few days, I have been writing about myself and I became more conscious of who I am. I am a Middle Eastern, middle-class, male, Generation X, extroverted Muslim Emirati, who believes in the mixture of determinism and free will and the capacity of human beings to become good and that despite their prejudices, they can learn to respect each otherââ¬â¢s differences, if they only tried. I am from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and as an Emirati, I am open to multiculturalism, fiercely passionate about my own culture, and liberal-minded when it comes to diverse social issues. Others just see me as a plain Middle Eastern man, which is not the same for me, because the Middle East has diverse cultures and ethnicities. When people ask me if I am from the Middle East, I tell them, I am from the UAE. This is not because I do not wish to be related to the Middle Eastern race, but because I want to specify my ethnicity. I believe that people cannot lump different ethnicities into one regional identity because national, family, and individual identities shape people too. As an Emirati, I grew up in a society that some people will call as a paradox. On the one hand, my family is a conservative group of Muslims. On the other hand, our family is composed of liberal thinkers too. I learned from my parents to respect other cultures. I can tell non-Muslims that Islam is the highest religion and a Christian can tell me otherwise and I will not be angry at him for saying so. If I want them to respect me as a Muslim, I will respect their religious or spiritual beliefs too, or even when they do not have any shred of spiritual belief in their lives. Emiratis are open to multicultural societies. They have developed with diverse cultures and religions in their midst. In addition, in this multicultural society, I enjoy having a strong voice. As a devout Muslim, I am prepared to discuss my religion to anybody. I can debate on points of facts, values, and policies. However, I will never force my beliefs on anyone. As long as people can live peacefully together and share common goals for life, happiness, and freedom, I find it no need to settle in lifelong disputes. The future should not be a bitter struggle because of peopleââ¬â¢s differences. Middle-class living is part of my familyââ¬â¢s heritage and it provided me many social and economic opportunities that made me technology-dependent, optimistic and quite carefree to some extent. Being middle-class has given me comforts in life. I grew up watching the fast transition of technology from VHS to CD to DVD. Now, people can watch movies and TV shows online. Almost everyone has a cellular phone, even some of the poor. The fast-paced technology made me dependent on it. I cannot imagine a life without my mobile phone. I have some difficulty thinking about not having a computer or laptop at my disposal. They are my access to the Internet where I get information on about almost anything in the world. The world is at my fingertips and I feel comfort in knowing that. Being middle-class has made me optimistic because I know that I can access information easily. This information, if valid, can help me make good decisions in school, workplace, and even in life. Furthermore, since I have a comfortable life, I am quite carefree. I do not get easily bogged down by problems. I see the silver lining in the darkest

Amino Acid Found in the Protein Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Amino Acid Found in the Protein - Assignment Example In this pathway, regulation is majorly dependent on both positive and negative feedback mechanisms. Specifically, the positive feedback control mechanism is essential in the ripening of fruits and senescence of flowers. In tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum), there is an upsurge in ethylene production after exposure to exogenous ethylene. This, in turn, activates the activity of 1-Aminocyclopropane -1- Carboxylate Synthase. The role of 1-Aminocyclopropane-1-Carboxylate Synthase with regard to the ripening of fruits was first demonstrated in the year 1991. In this experiment, its role was fully understood in transgenic tomato plants that expressed the protein antisense Ribonucleic acid (RNA). Further experimental studies involving mutagenesis and crystallization of the enzyme, three-dimensional structures as well as amino acid residues have been of core importance in understanding its role. ACC synthase is beneficial in a number of ways including induction of apoptosis by oxidative stres s, response to both external stimulus and ethylene. ACC synthase is important in cellular response to iron ions. Additionally, the protein plays a vital role in response to wounding, mechanical stimulus as well as jasmonic acid. This protein is expressed during various developmental and growth stages such as anthesis, leaf senescence, bilateral and globular stage. Within the plant cell, at the molecular level, this enzyme is important in protein binding and is expressed in the flowers, leaf apex, embryo, stem and the leaves (Alexander and Don 2032).

Human Resource Management regarding Coca Cola Company Essay
Human Resource Management regarding Coca Cola Company - Essay Example The personnel management accentuates the transactional leadership style where the leader is not viewed as a job-oriented individual. In this style of management, focus is directed at set procedures, completion of duties, and punishment for not performing or complying with the rules. Human aspects like consideration, concern, lenience, and personal relationships attract less attention. Human resources management, however, creates transformational leaders. This style of management seeks to promote the sharing of business goals by both management and employees. This management is workforce oriented and shares the objectives of the business with its employees. The second distinction is that in personnel management the job plan is functional. Pay policies are not based on ability and information. The value in this management is based on the duties outlined in the contract only. The human resources management encourages workforce to view the pay as a motivation to improvement of job perfor mance. The job design focuses on teamwork, job rotation and enlargement as an approach created by the human resources manager. Third, the personnel management ensures that personnel strictly follow the contract of employment. This style of management allows no room for modifications or changes in the contract outline. The human resources management employs a flexible approach to the workforce that entails open contract agreements. The employees granted the freedom to choose working systems that suit them. This style ensures that the employees are free hence more input leading to the benefit of the organization (Ster & Koster, 2007, p. 6). This style is referred to as a win-win approach. The nature of relations is also different because in the personnel management the relationship is contractual. In this management one individual hires whereas the other one performs. The human resources management focuses on sharing mission and vision associated with the achievement of the organizat
